Week of October 24

Unit Objectives:
Reading- As the new nine weeks begins, we are diving into expository text. The students will focus on identifying expository. What does it look like? What makes it different from fiction? We will revisit text features, and discuss the purpose behind them. We will ask ourselves, what is the purpose of a subtitle? A picture?
Writing- Writing expository text is different than writing narratives. We want to write about things we know about. We will be creating an “Expert List.” This list will contain things in our life that we feel we are knowledgeable about.  Students will be challenged to put their opinions in writing.
Math – Students will continue to use patterns to multiply by multiples of 10, use rounding and compatible numbers to estimate solutions to multiplication problems, and use multiplication to solve problems involving 2-digit numbers.
Science – Students will differentiate among forms of energy including mechanical, sound, electrical, light and heat/thermal – sound & electrical.
Social StudiesStudents will begin to study the influential impresarios who began the first non-mission settlements in Texas.
Character Trait – Non Violence
