Informational Text Features

Students should be able to identify and explain the purpose/importance of informational text features.

Informational Text Features
Importance
Labels
Helps the reader identify a picture or photograph and its parts.
Photographs
Helps the reader understand exactly what something looks like.
Captions
Gives a little information about the photograph to better understand it.
Maps
Helps the reader to understand where something is.
Different Types of Text (bold, italics, etc)
Helps the reader signal “Look at me! I’m important!”
Table of Contents
Helps the reader identify key topics.
Index
Alphabetical list of everything covered in the text with page #’s.
Glossary
Helps to identify key words.
Subtitles
Helps the reader to know what that section is about.
